Locate an Artist
To find the VALUE of works of art, DO NOT ASK HERE. Go to the Auction houses and Registries, including ArtNet, ArtCyclopedia, Butterfield's, ArtPrice, Christie's, Sotheby's, and Art Dealers Association of America.
Follow these steps to locate your artist:
1 a.) CHECK FIRST - did someone ask your question?
... b.) Type the Artist's name and media in the Subject line of
your submission.
... c.) Do you have a piece by the artist? What does it look like? What
dimensions? Is it signed or dated? OR, Can you guess when it was
done? i.e., are there horses, cars or spaceships?
... d.) Where is the artist OR the piece from? Did you know the artist?
With information, location becomes more likely. If you come with a question,
please try to leave an answer.
2.) Try the Art Search Engines
3.) Try Art Organizations,
historical societies or museums in the state or country of origin.
4.) Try People Search Engines:
Yahoo's People Search, or American
Directory Assistance or InfoSpace
or WhoWhere or BigFoot.
