About Cucaro
Due to the apparent interest there still is in Pascal Cucaro, I'd like to alert
everyone to a website I've started, with a Cucaro Exhibition Section, and a
few Cucaros for sale. http://www.avfinearts.org.
If any Cucaro collectors would like to consign their artwork, please let me
know. Antoinette

Pat Cucaro was a somewhat popular artist in the Bay area in the 1960's. I have
a couple of his paintings, one of which is the Tides Book Store in Sausalito.
At that time, his works went up in value quite a bit; then, he seemed to float
off into oblivion, along with the market value of his paintings. Carl

My father owned a restaurant in San Fancisco called the Iron Pot. Up and comming
artists went there to display their work. My father would display the art and
if people wanted to purchase the work, my father knew how they could be reached.
There were artists such as Carl Armin Hansen. One of the charcoal drawings was
done by Cucaro which is at my fathers house. It is of a clown. I too am interested
in it's value. Anyone, please respond with information. Also, a book about Cucaro's
work was published. I would like to find a copy of this book. Thank You.

His wife Maria told me last year that Cucaro lived in a retirement home in
San Rafael. She still lives in Sausalito (in a houseboat). Henry

Cucaro and his wife do live in the Sausalito area. At one time he was a very
popular artist and has hung in many prominent museums across America. In fact,
a book (out of print) has been written about him.
I know another artist in Sausalito that knows quite a bit about Cucaro. His
name is Nick Mullahey and can be reached at 415-331-5879. Give him a call.

Cucaro Paintings
I have some paintings by an artist named Cucaro. The artist I am familiar with
was well known in the San Francisco Bay area in the 50's. He painted clowns
and circus scenes. I am also trying to get them valued to sell. If this sounds
like the same artist I would appreciate any information that you have found.
I will also share with you any information I come across.

I have 5 of Cucaro's paintings which I purchased in 1971 from Cory Galleries
in SFO. At the time of purchase, the gallery gave his hard back portfolio book
titled "Cucaro", in which he painted, sketched, and autographed the dedication
pages. In April 1981, I phoned Cory Galleries and asked if they would appraise
the Cucaro paintings I have for insurance purposes. I made myself a note that
'they will appraise paintings by original sales receipt or color photos with
exact dimmension of canvas for a fee (at that time) of 3% of appraised value.

We have four Cucaro pieces which we bought in 1971. One of them is a large
"people" painting; one we were told is a self-portrait that looks like clowns
(it's an Artist's Proof); another is more people - done in 1969; and the last
is a small drawing he did on the back of a pack of English cigarettes in a hotel
room (according to the art gallery proprieter). We, too, are interested in their
value if anyone has any information on this.

Pascal cucaro
Yes, the sixties. Magical San Fransisco and years of music, magic, and Haight
Ashbury. I have an 8" by 36" Cucaro given to be by a friend while we "grew"
up in the old Flyshacker mansion. I plan to give it to my daughter, age 31 yoa
and as beautiful as the times.
Do not know of value but it is an oil painting with 5 clown faces in dark colors.
I have carried this around for 32 years and consider it a member of the family.
Good luck

Just found your dialogue about Cucaro on the Web. I too am trying to find out
about the market value of Pascal Cucaro's paintings. If you have had any success
with your inquiries, could you kindly contact me at the e-mail address shown
above? Any info you have been able to gather that might shed light on the current
market for this artist would be most helpful. I'm interested in valuing a painting
from the late 1960s.
Many thanks, Alex Stuart

I have a book about Cucaro. It is a thin paperback, approximately 7" x 9" (from memory, I don't have it here where I'm typing) . . . in a black & white mottled hardboard slip-case. It has what appears to be a rough drawing on the inside, drawn with different-colored 'magic markers', signed by the artist himself . . . with a dedication to a man + woman (first names). I obtained it in Hawaii in approximately 1974. I've often wondered if it had any value but never located any information about Cucaro until I recently began to frequent the 'web' & thought to investigate him. I'm not sure I want to sell it . . . especially not having any concept of its current or potential value. Its in very good condition.
