Carolyn Kibe
Living in a created world has always been my most natural
state of being. My style has been a natural evolution involving my own growth, passions and feelings around the medium used and the winters of my life. Most of my pieces involve reflective meditations on persons I have connected with or places I have been in my dreams. Currently, I used pastels exclusively. I work quickly and impatiently for short bursts and pastels allow me that freedom. My creations primarily stress color, shape and texture which pastels express easily. Their colors are intensely beautiful and pure and the tactile nature of the medium forms texture. I layer with a combination of hand blending and endless strokes. The pastels used are a combination of soft pastels like Sennelier, Rembrandt, Schminke and any brands that might come my way. I have always used a variety of pastel papers but lately, Strathmore museum board has been my surface of choice. As evident, my work comes primarily from my imagination. As I travel through daily paces some scene or light or color will cause me to pause and capture it in my memory banks. Then I pull out that inspiration once inside my studio. Infrequently, I will work "plein air" or use combinations of photographs to concentrate on some specific subject. My desire is to keep the "scape" simple and to omit many details while enticing the viewer in to experience the moment as imprinted on my memory. Hopefully, the viewer will create the details they want to complete the visual impact on their own memories --Carolyn Kibe--
