Susan began painting as a child in Brooklyn, NY, always
seeking the
natural beauty in parks and excursions to the
country. This pursuit
led her to college in upstate, NY where she has lived
ever since.
Susans studio/home in the hills of West Danby permits her easy
access
to the undeveloped world, whether it be distant hills
or close details.
Canoeing on lakes and streams affords her paddle entrance
to places and
wildlife not normally experienced from a car or
path.
Susan worked mainly in pastels and watercolor pencils
until about 3
years ago when she began exploring dye painting on
textiles, quickly
selecting silk for her favorite fabric. The feel
(or hand) of silk
constantly reminds me of how much I am enjoying the
process. This
method, while slower than traditional art forms, truly
speaks to my
soul. Each major piece takes her about 3-4 months
to complete.
More recently, Susan began a series of colored pencil
paintings on
slate. She chose slate as the ground because of its
inherent connection
to the land, water, flora and fauna she
interprets.
Susan Sarabashas most recent honor was being
invited to show Boreal Remains
in Fantastic Fibers '98, the 11th Annual Fiber Exhibit
sponsored by the
Yeiser Art Center in Paducah, KY. This year 53 works
were selected from
approximately 2000 submitted for consideration.

and our oneness with
nature.
